Ruth Lynfield

Dr. Ruth Lynfield received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and trained in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Disease at Massachusetts General Hospital. Upon completion of her fellowship in 1992, Dr. Lynfield joined the Pediatric Infectious Disease Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Massachusetts State Laboratory. In 1997, she joined the Minnesota Department of Health as a medical epidemiologist, and was appointed State Epidemiologist and Medical Director for Infectious Diseases in 2007. Dr. Lynfield leads the Minnesota component of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Emerging Infections Program Active Bacterial Core Surveillance System, influenza projects and the healthcare-associated infections projects. She has served on multiple public health committees and has adjunct faculty appointments in Internal Medicine, Epidemiology and Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota.
